There are several things that come to mind at the mention of charms. There are charms used for luck, an item of jewelry or trinket that is worn around your wrist, and who could forget Prince Charming? Generally speaking, a charm is something magical, or, as the dictionary states, it is “a quality of arousing delight or admiration.” This definition is something that definitely carries over into the use of scrapbooking charms.

Making Memories Ribbon Alphabet Charms         Scrapbookers have used creative embellishments such as scrapbooking charms for a while now. They are usually flat and made from metal. They make great additions to any page. For example, if you were creating a page for the arrival of a baby, there are several options to choose from. Baby-themed charms, such as alphabet blocks or booties, can be attached to your page with the help of ribbon or a brad. Attach them in the corner of a frame, next to words, or directly onto your photos. Another creative idea for the use of scrapbooking charms is to place them at the top of a tassle. If you are making a page that showcases a graduation, include a tassle with a charm that has the graduation year on it. There are also graduation cap charms that are available, or numbers for the year of graduation.

A special way to use scrapbooking charms is to make them the focus of the page. Take a keepsake charm that may be a family heirloom and showcase it. If you have images of a family member wearing the charm, that would make your page all the more special. Do some research on the charm and add some journaling for a narrative effect. It makes the project more precious when you share the story behind it. The only downfall to doing a page like this is that the charm may not lie flat on the page. If this is the case, simply take a picture of the charm.

You could use scrapbooking charms for decorating the outside cover of the album. Buy a three-ring binder, cover it with quilt batting and material, and attach the charm to the fabric. You could also create a special bookmark that is topped off with a tassle and charm to go along with the theme of the album. There are so many charms to choose from, and they really do add the finishing touch to your project.
